Picking up where we left off last week, I’ll begin by saying Carolina Herrera to hold high esteem on my top three lists. Of the best designers and never is it more evident, as when bridal week rolls around. Each year is better than the last for these icons that never disappoint. Really zeroing in on these years trends I’m intrigued with how many details are showing up in bridal wear. Details not every designer offered a few years back that are now pretty standard, like pockets and belts. Speaking of which…
Thank you Carolina! Lately my clients are asking for pockets to be incorporated into the design of their wedding dress. Face it they do lend a real high fashion sort of 1960′s Balenciaga look to most any gown. In addition, my brides tell me they want their hands free of a purse. Pockets, like collars, peplums and hoods, are all functional in their way but still a stylish fashion component to be added and enjoyed. Find out what the guys have known all along: life’s a lot easier with pockets. Big in the 1980′s, here it comes back again this time around with all kinds of components you can change around, and this absolutely fantastic over-the-top cape by Oscar de la Renta that I’d have no problem wearing as a skirt!
THE PEPLUM is reminiscent of two eras of 20th Century dress: the 1940′s and fashions coming out of Paris in the First World War era. These below by Amsale are ideal for brides going vintage who know how to bring out the retro with the right accessories. Like I’ve always said, no matter how simple or paired down a dress can get, some women just can’t get into wearing a dress even for their wedding day.
